Biography
Bio | Anthony V. Zampella is an educator, coach, activist, writer, and researcher in the field of adult learning and leadership development. He integrates Western knowledge and Eastern contemplative practices to develop generative mindsets. Since 1999, Tony has worked as a leadership specialist, as an academic and professional designing leadership programs for executives, first-time CEOs, and L&D professionals. His firm, Bhavana Learning Group, is a pioneer in “first-person learning,” closely related to triple-loop learning, or ontological learning. Distinct from conventional third-person “empirical” learning, and second-person “experiential” learning, first-person learning involves an “existential awareness” that cultivates insight and perceptions to alter mindsets. He writes a blog, Unlearning Curve, for learning and development professionals, and serves on the Editorial Board of “The Philosophy of Coaching, an International Journal.” Tony’s eclectic fusion of Western business models, generative learning methods, language-action practices, and Eastern wisdom traditions inform his interests in Martin Heidegger, Ken Wilber, and Zen Buddhism. •Conventional studies include an MS in Journalism from Columbia University; MS in Business, Organizational Leadership, Mercy College; BA in Sociology from University of California at San Diego (UCSD).
